Settlements


Lisa Lulaj
 On April 6, 2006, a jury found against Wackenhut and awarded the plaintiff, Lisa Lulaj $200,000 for lost wages, future lost wages, medical and noneconomic damages in a sex discrimination suit. Lulaj claimed she was denied a promotion to supervisor after advising Wackenhut of her pregnancy and was told she should consider a lesser position due to her "condition"; a nonpregnant employee was given her duties and responsibilities and received the promotion.
 
Catalina Lopez Vasquez
In January 2007, Wackenhut Puerto Rico was ordered to pay an $80,000 settlement to a former employee in a case brought by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding sexual harassment and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1991. The company was also ordered to create an anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation policy, mandatory training on sexual discrimination and other measures at its corporate headquarters in Puerto Rico.
 

Karen Franklin
On March 15, 2006 judgement was entered, pursuant to an offer of judgement by Wackenhut, in favor of Karen Franklin against Wackenhut Corporation in the amoutn of $75,000 in the suit she filed against Wackenhut for gender discrimination, racial discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation and disability discrimination.
 

Edward Harris
Edward Harris, an African American who was a senior Wackenhut manager, sued the company for racial discrimination. A former Air Force lieutenant colonel, Harris also alleges inadequate supplies and facilities for African Americans, and racist insults from top managers.
